Major General Hasnat was born in Kushtia on 27 August 1970 and commissioned in the Corps of Infantry on 23 Jun 1989. He held various important command and staff appointments in his career both in Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh. He has commanded an Infantry Division, an infantry Brigade, a Border Guard Bangladesh Region and an Infantry Battalion under counter insurgency operation in south-eastern part of Bangladesh including a field intelligence unit. His staff appointments include Grade -2 staff officer of an Infantry Brigade at Chittagong Hill District, Grade-2 Staff Officer (Intelligent) in an Infantry Division, Grade-1 Staff Officer in Infantry Directorate, Army Headquarters, Additional Director General (Headquarters) and Additional Director General (Operations and Training) at Headquarters, Border Guard Bangladesh. He also had an opportunity to serve as an instructor to train the junior leader of Bangladesh Army. Major General Hasnat held the prestigious appointment as the first Military Assistant to Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army. He also served as Senior Directing Staff (Army) at the National Defence College, Mirpur which is the highest and strategic level training institution of Bangladesh Armed Forces.

Major General Hasnat served twice under blue helmet. First, in 1995-1996 in Kuwait under United Nation Mission in Kuwait (BANBAT-2) as Platoon Commander and in 2006-2007 as Grade-2 Staff Officer (Analysis) in Headquarters African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS).

Major General Hasnat is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. He has also completed his Armed Forces War Course and National Defence Course from National Defence College, Mirpur. Besides, he has Masters in Defence Studies from National University Bangladesh, Master of Strategic Studies and Masters in Strategy & Development Studies from Bangladesh University of Professionals, Mirpur. He has undergone foreign course on Comprehensive Security Response to Terrorism Course and Advance Security Cooperation Course at Asia Pacific Centre, Hawaii, USA.

Major General Hasnat has been awarded with Border Guard Bangladesh Medal and President Border Guard Bangladesh Medal by the Honourable President of Peoples Republic of Bangladesh for his extra ordinary service to Border Guard Bangladesh.

Major General Hasnat is widely travelled person. He has visited good number of countries including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE, USA, Sudan, Russia, Ivory Coast, CAR, Myanmar, India, Nepal, Brunei, China, Indonesia, and Thailand etc.

Major General Hasnat has been designated as new Ambassador of Bangladesh to Libya. He is happily married with Mrs Mahfuza Akther and blessed with a son and a daughter.
